I was in the Israeli army c. 1950, an infantry soldier going into alleys and caves with a group. I would go in first and fire a bullet or two into the darkness, then the rest would come in. I soon ran out of bullets, I only had a handful to begin with. I had some sort of darts or rocks that I had to make do with.
