    Michel, re your Red Book query, it's because of what I read about Jung's experience in writing it and how he almost went mad from the experience. From my own life choices, sometimes the idea or choice of satisfying curiosity and experiencing ephemeral experiences often have left me feeling flat and discouraged me from changing my reality, which has caused me daily pain, it's like being a drug addict but without drugs. Or rather, my "drugs" have been stories...

    I was also surprised to read in this quote that most people reproduce their daily lives. I also don't think that a dream can be totally disconnected from symbolism.
    As for me, mine are not that "straightforward and predictable". When I take a look at the dream chart since I have joined ,even though I tend to dream of people I know, I am almost never in my home or in my office. Most of the time I am in sort of exotic places, doing "extraordinary" things like an adventurer, such as zip line between 2 buildings , finding a treasure in an ancient jail, scuba diving without the proper material, swimming naked in a Canadian lake or dancing with an old indian lady in a Bollywood scene !
    Even though I don't think that it does reflect a dissatisfaction , I have to say my daily life is far less exiting :)

    I finally tread this blog post :) I like that she shows how there are many different theories about dreams. May be to each his own ... On my part, I don't recognise my self in the quoted "Hall" text where peoples dreams are mostly reproduce their daily lives without any symbolism. I know some people who would, though.

    On Freud, I always find it surprising when people completely dismiss him. I was happy to read an article in a recent issue of Scientific American on "Our unconscious Mind". The paper is somewhat in the defence of Freud's work. There was the following interesting point. Recent experimental psychology results that are generally poised against Freud's approach, work on groups of people and average quantities. Freud, on the other hand, worked on individuals with their singularities, so the comparison between results from modern studies and Freud's work is like comparing potatoes to carrots.

    Cosmos: I am curious: why are you saying that reading the Red book would bring you into the darkest corners of your mind ?

    Have a good day everybody !

    I purchased the Big REd Book a few years back, and have only skimmed through it. Perhaps the subconscious holding me back for fear of delving too deeply into the darkest corners of my mind, like he did with this compilation of his diary??

    By the way, you may have noticed that the group has its own forum, so that it is possible to discuss more general issues than specific dreams amongst the dreamers.

    The forum can be accessed from a link on the main group page (Left navigation -> groups -> cosmopolite then "Group", just above the dream graph).

    Thanks for sharing this Cosmos, will read with interest!

    Regrading Jung and nazism, I think this is still a controversial issue, some people say he did have sympathies, while others completely denie this. It is worth digging through, though.

    And best wishes to all members of the group for 2014 :) May you have sweet and inspiring dreams!

    Thanks for sharing. With this new book, here's another demonstration of people growing interest for dreams. The article points out the fact that Freud theories have been dismissed, without much of a viable alternative theory; However, I am curious why Carl Jung is not even mentioned. Although I have a big problem with his deeply ambiguous attitude to Nazism.... He's known to be a major theorist within this field.

    Anyway, happy new year to the Cosmopolitain group ! wish you to make lots of dreams in 2014, to help you to achieve your resolutions, whatever they are;
