The trickster figure, synchronicity by mikele -- Jan. 11, 2012

Finished working at around 10:30pm. Take the train from the city back to Oakland. In the train, I am reading Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious, by Jung. I've just reached the chapter on the trickster figure, which is sometime symbolized by gnome type creatures in mythology. Getting out at 12th st station, I see a strange advertisement poster on the wall with a gnome from the famous gnome book, with his red hat. I can't remember what the add is for as I write this, but I remember noticing that there was no relation with gnomes, so I was a bit amused. Walking home, I decide to go for a beer. I stop by at the Trappist, local bar. As I walk in, I see on the cash register screen an image of a red hatted gnome. I am starting to be amused that this is the second time I see a gnome today. At the bar, I ask what kind of blond beer they have. The guy recommends a 'Prankster'. The beer was not really good, but by then I was laughing and cheering to Jung and his synchronicity.

Didn't stay too long in the Trappist, about 1/4 of an hour. Walk out and continue my way home - another 5mn walk - meet this homeless guy I see regularly in the 12th street station. We had a quick chat - he's been in the street for seven years, 'enjoying the American economy', making 80 dollars a day by asking. Not doing too bad for his situation. He's a crack addict. He has curly hair, the look and the smile of Pan.

Never heard of Prankster beer before! I don't see pranksters, gnomes and tricksters every day, even if I want to see them :) That day I had all the club!

Maybe when you saw the add, the gnome in the bar and heard about the "Prankster", you simply noticed something because you were made alert to it from your reading. If it hadn't been for your book, you might not have noticed those things.

It sounds -to me, quite modestly :) - like the same mechanism as when something new is uncovered and gets a name attached to it for the first time (for example, a disease, or a social behavior), then it seems that it occurs many times more since it's been discovered.

    What do you think?

    you are already doing something...
you are writing it here and I am reading it and it is influencing us and the world and......

I don't know exactly - may be we have to apply some dream interpretation technique to it :)

For sure I have a powerful trickster in me - a message that I should do something about it ?
